Hey Bloggers,
I honestly feel that this weeks listening exercise was a big impact for me in my life this week. With everything that is going on during the day like work, practice, working out and homework I believe that the subtle mind exercise was perfect. The subtle mind exercise was very unique allowing the listener to train their brain in order to block out grasping distractions. The loving kindness exercise was more about emotional connection with people, enemies or not. Also you were to feel the hurt of others, which is a hard concept to establish. Both are wonderful exercises, however I do believe that the subtle mind was harder for me to pay attention to and outside distractions were easier to get in. I think that the subtle mind will be one that I will incorporate in my daily routine to balance my mind, body and spiritual wellness. I can not believe the peace of mind that can be felt if you have fully trained your brain to focus on the silence. When practicing the loving kindness I feel that it was a little deep for my comfort level a times. I do not like a cry nor really get overly drastic towards any emotion, except for being happy. However, the exercise brought up very strong emotions in which I believe I do need to work on, for that I believe I would use this exercise. The connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness means that without all three in balance and peace there will not be full flourishing towards life. The body is connected by its muscles, emotions and thoughts, which all bind together. Spiritual wellness allows the mind and the body the have charge, hope and the will to keep going. The mind is not worth being if it is not in good thoughts and a peaceful state, just like the body is not worth being if it is not energetic and ready to be. Spirituality allows for stress levels to go down and negative emotions to decrease, leaving a flourishing state and total mind, body and spirit control. I really enjoyed this week, excited to hear back.

Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteI was curious when you said practice, what activity you are doing? I enjoyed reading your post this week. I too benefited a great deal from this week's exercise more so than last. I don't know if it was because of the tasks the exercised asked, or the environment in which I completed the exercise. Either way, my state of mind pre, post, and during was way better. I like your comments on the physical, spiritual, and mental wellness realms. Do you feel with working out and being active (I assume you were practicing a sport) that your physical wellness is overtaking the others? Mine most certainly is.
Thanks,
Chris
Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteWell I too have found the subtle mind exercise a bit more easier for me to participate in, because it allows me to focus on the rhythm of my breathing and block out all of the interferences that surround my environment. However the loving-kindness exercise made it hard for me to focus, because I had to endure and imagine the pain of others.
As far as the trio powerhouse of mind/body/spirit, you do make a great point all three are important to progress toward overall wellness. Great blog this week.
